This Is The Place

Can you believe we have lived in UT for 12 years & we have never gone to This Is The Place State Park? I don't know why we haven't. We were going to go to California this summer, but decided to wait until next summer. My sister lives there & is in the middle of buying a home, & we decided to wait until she is moved & settled. So, we decided to stay in Utah & made a list of places we have never been, or wanted to go again. This Is The Place State Park was on the top of our list, & we were really excited when we found out that it was FREE admission last Thursday. Steve had training, so the kids & I packed a lunch, my camera, & off we went.



Basically, what the park is a re-creation of early pioneer life in Utah.



Right after we arrived, Steve called on my cell phone. He said he wished he could be with us. Teasingly, I said, "Well, just come on up!" He was quiet for a minute, & then said, "I'll be there in an hour!" We were so excited. While we waited for him, we took a tour of the park on the train, & looked through the visitor's center.



We thought it was fun that our tour guide & engineer were dressed up in pioneer clothing!

I loved the quilt, but the bed looked very uncomfortable & took up 3/4 of the cabin.



The kids saw the chamber pots in the cabin, & they all agreed that they much rather use the outhouse than a chamber pot!

ok, the weather was terrible, but it was free! After Steve arrived, we visited the barn, the school, the blacksmith shop, the barber shop, the bank, and the newspaper, and the saloon.










The saloon was serving free ice cream, which we couldn't resist, even on a cold, rainy day!


It was fun to see what life was like in the 1850s. It made us realize how many comforts we have & feel blessed to live in this time!
